Safe, dignified, independent
An accessible bathroom should feel like a bathroom, not a clinical facility. The goal is independence and safety without turning a familiar home into a hospital. We modify bathrooms for older residents, people with mobility limitations, wheelchair users and families planning for the future, with careful attention to clearances, reach, lighting and slip resistance.
The most common request is a step-free shower. Achieving it properly means resolving the floor level, drainage fall, waterproofing and screen design together. Grab rails need solid fixing behind the wall lining, not just a toggle bolt into plasterboard. Door widths, turning circles and basin knee space all affect whether the room genuinely works.
We work with occupational therapists and support coordinators where clients have funding or specific requirements. We can quote to a prescribed scope, provide documentation for approvals and complete the work with minimal disruption. If you are planning ahead rather than responding to an immediate need, we can also build in future-proofing now.
Every project is different, but the following scope is the foundation we price and manage. Your written quote confirms exactly what applies to your room, including any exclusions and provisional allowances.
Hobless shower with correct fall, linear drainage, waterproofing and a low-profile entry.
Rails fixed to structural blocking in the shower, toilet and basin areas, positioned to suit the user.
Door widening, screen configuration and layout changes to improve wheelchair or walker access.
Wall-hung basin, toilet and vanity options that improve floor access and cleaning.
Rated slip-resistant tiles, continuous transitions and removal of unnecessary steps.
Bright, even lighting, accessible switches and lever-style tapware for reduced grip strength.
Folding or fixed shower seats with appropriate support and drainage clearance.
Scope and completion documentation suitable for funding, OT review and home modification records.
Two clients with the same diagnosis can need different rail positions, seat heights and clearances. We ask how you move, where you need support and who else uses the bathroom. Where an OT has provided a prescription, we build to it and flag any construction constraint early.
A step-free shower is a level problem before it is a tiling problem. We check the slab, floor structure and adjoining floor heights, then design the fall and drainage. Cutting a slab or lowering a floor is significant work, so it must be planned rather than discovered.
Grab rails are only as good as their fixing. We install blocking or use appropriate structural anchors, then test the installation. A rail that moves when loaded is more dangerous than no rail at all.
Accessible does not mean institutional. We use the same tile ranges, joinery and lighting as any quality bathroom, and integrate rails and seats so they are discreet. Dignity is part of the brief.
Accessible modifications range from a targeted upgrade to a full rebuild. Costs are driven by floor level changes, structural work, fixtures and the extent of the room.
| Scope | Indicative range |
|---|---|
| Targeted modifications, rails and seat | $3,500 – $8,000 |
| Step-free shower conversion | $16,000 – $26,000 |
| Full accessible bathroom rebuild | $26,000 – $38,000 |
| Complex structural or wheelchair layout | $38,000+ |
Indicative only. Funding arrangements, OT prescriptions and structural changes affect the final scope. For a fuller breakdown, read our Brisbane bathroom renovation cost guide or use the cost calculator.
One project lead manages the sequence, checks each trade's work and keeps you informed. The programme is agreed before demolition so you know when to expect each stage.
We discuss mobility needs, current difficulties and any OT or funding involvement.
The room, floor levels, wall structure and drainage are inspected.
A written scope addresses access, safety, fixtures and documentation.
We provide information for funding or body corporate approvals where required.
Works are sequenced to minimise time without a usable bathroom.
Rails are tested, operation is demonstrated and documentation is provided.
We are the builder. The team who quotes your project is accountable for the waterproofing, tiling, trade coordination and handover. That direct responsibility is why our scope can be specific and our programme realistic.
If you are comparing quotes, read our guide to choosing a bathroom contractor and our contractor standards so you know what to ask.
We work across Greater Brisbane, including the northside, southside, eastside, westside and inner city. Local housing conditions affect the scope: older Queenslanders may need floor levelling and substrate repair, while apartments need body corporate approval and careful access planning.

Practical answers
The questions Brisbane homeowners ask most often about accessible bathroom modifications, costs and timing.
Yes. We can build to an OT prescription or attend a joint assessment. If a proposed detail is not structurally practical, we explain the constraint and suggest an equivalent solution before work starts.
We provide a detailed written scope, invoices and completion documentation. Funding eligibility and approval are managed by you and your plan manager or support coordinator. We can quote to the approved scope.
Sometimes. If the floor structure allows, we can build up the surrounding floor or use a low-profile tray to create a level entry. The best solution depends on the slab, joist direction and adjoining floor heights.
No. Grab rails and accessibility fixtures are specified separately because position and fixing depend on the user and wall structure. We include them in the accessible scope after assessment.
A full accessible rebuild typically takes 2–4 weeks on site. We plan the programme to minimise consecutive days without a toilet or shower and discuss temporary options if needed.
Yes. We integrate rails, seats and step-free access into a conventional palette and layout. Most visitors would not notice the modifications until they look closely.
